First Ever DNA Documented Live Wolf Found in Maine

MAINE ENVIRONMENTAL NEWS • October 27, 2020

The Maine Wolf Coalition, Inc. and the Center for Biological Diversity announce that the first ever DNA documented live wolf has been identified in Maine. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has since 2001 tried to remove federal protections for gray wolves. They have argued that de-listing should occur in the northeast, in part, because there are no wolves in the northeast. The documented killing of no less than nine wolves south of the St. Lawrence River since 1993 is evidence that wolves are attempting to recolonize the northeast U.S. and southeastern Canada.
