Opinion: It’s official; it is a cougar

Vexillologist David Martucci writes that the adopted design for the county’s new flag “unfortunately” perpetuates a myth about a cougar being on the county seal. Martucci studied the original seal and concluded that it was a horse. Does that look like a horse to anyone? As a member of the Androscoggin County Commission and one who voted for the county’s new flag design, I declared at the public meeting, “I am pro-cougar!” Why? If we ever needed to go to war with, say, Kennebec County or Oxford County, we would want a fierce fighting cat as our mascot. ~ Marc Roy, Lewiston
