Farmers markets move outdoors to bigger spaces, with new rules

Most outdoor farmers markets in Maine, always popular places to shop and socialize, are opening for the season in May, some in new, far more spacious spots to allow for social distancing, and all with elaborate protocols in place to keep the coronavirus at bay. Their role has changed, too, from social gathering to an essential service during the pandemic.
