Large northern landowners phase in access, but camping still closed until June 1

BANGOR DAILY NEWS • May 4, 2020

North Maine Woods Inc. closed access to campsites on its 3.5 million acres of Maine forest in early April due to the COVID-19 pandemic. From May 1 to May 17, North Maine Woods and the KI Jo-Mary Forest will open for day use fishing, hiking and riding. Registration and visitor fees will not be required. On May 18, the group will start opening checkpoints. During weekdays visitors will be asked to self-register. On weekends, checkpoints will be staffed. Beginning June 1, campsites will be reopened to those who have completed the mandatory 14-day self-quarantine.
