Yarmouth’s Town Council undertook the first step toward removing two dams on the Royal River, voting unanimously Thursday night to approve a resolution authorizing Town Manager Nat Tupper to enter into an agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Removing the dams, conservation groups say, would allow migratory fish, such as alewives and shad, to move upstream and downstream, effectively opening access to about 71 miles of river habitat and 135 miles of potential reproductive and nursery habitat.
