Column: Spooky questions to contemplate on Halloween

MAINE SUNDAY TELEGRAM • October 31, 2021

Q: Why is it called a murder of crows? A: Crows have always been known for being seen around dead things. Feeding on carrion, would appear to make the crow guilty by association. While crows may be associated with murder in folklore, there have been times in history where humans have been the murderer of crows. There is still a hunting season for crows in Maine. If a whole flock of crows is called a murder, what do you call two crows? An attempted murder! ~ Maine Audubon Staff Naturalist Doug Hitchcox
