The energy giant Hydro-Quebec has spent another $5.1 million since the July 1 in its effort to convince Maine voters to approve a controversial powerline expansion through a part of the upper Kennebec River Valley is a good idea. The partnership between the power company, owned by the government of Quebec, and Central Maine Power, Co. is building the expanded line in an effort to deliver more energy generated by hydroelectric dams in Canada to the New England grid. In all, Hydro-Quebec has directly spent $8 million on its messaging in Maine in 2021.
