2021 hunting season has been safe and fruitful

So far, the 2021 deer hunting season is off to a safe and fruitful start. There had been no hunting related mishaps by the end of the day Friday. Tagging stations and wildlife officials alike reported vigorous numbers across the board. “Last year, we had one or our highest deer harvests since the early 2000s,” said Mark Latti, communications director with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife. “We expect the deer harvest to be a little higher than last year because we issued more any-deer permits. That seems to be tracking true. Totals through last weekend were about 1,000 deer higher this year than last —approximately 16,500 deer taken this year compared to 15,500 last year at this time.”
