Letter: Coyotes necessary to control deer herd

MORNING SENTINEL • May 16, 2021

I applaud Geri Vistein’s column in support of L.D. 1265, “An Act to Regulate the Killing of Coyotes” (“It’s long past time to regulate the killing of our state’s coyotes,” April 24). Coyotes are the primary predator in the central Maine woods. They play an important role in the ecosystem, keeping the deer herd at healthy levels. Think of coyotes as the hunters’ and the forest owners’ best friend, keeping the deer herd, and the forest, healthy. Tell your legislator that you support L.D. 1265. ~ Earle Bessey, licensed forester, Waterville
