State environmental regulators said Friday that Central Maine Power is in compliance with its permit to clear vegetation around a new transmission line despite allegations it is cutting too wide a swath for the controversial project. Earlier in the week, opponents of the new transmission line accused CMP of misleading the public about the width of a corridor that is being cleared for the $1 billion New England Clean Energy Connect project. They also alleged that contractors had potentially violated the permit by clear-cutting a wider corridor.
