Tony Bennett of Bethel, who said he’s been asking Walmart managers in Mexico and Oxford for three years to clean up trash behind their stores, was ordered Wednesday to leave the Mexico property after employees saw him picking up trash next to the Androscoggin River. “I can’t walk away from it anymore,” Bennett said. “I love Maine and I love the rivers, I love the ponds, the lakes and the wildlife and I’m not gonna let corporate Walmart (expletive) all over Oxford County.” Store Manager Scott Huddleston said Tuesday that the corporate office in Arkansas has contracted someone to clean up the trash but he didn’t know when it would be done.
