Editorial: Maine has a lot of water to enjoy. Please enjoy it safely.

BANGOR DAILY NEWS • June 9, 2021

There have now been five deaths on Maine waters since Sunday. The stories are heartbreaking. Even on a warm and sunny day, water temperatures still might not be safe. This is especially true on the coast. Maine has over 3,000 miles of coastline, over 30,000 milesof river waterways and roughly 6,000 lakes and ponds. These waters have provided recreational and economic opportunities for generations. They should be settings of wonder, not tragedy. It can’t be said enough: Wear your life jacket. Know your limits. Be conscious of the water temperature.
