Maine animal sanctuary rescues abused, neglected farm animals

An animal sanctuary in the town of Brooks has been rescuing abused and neglected farm animals for 20 years. The Peace Ridge Sanctuary generally gets the animals from the Maine Animal Welfare Program. Executive Director Daniella Tessier said each animal arrives with a story and a second chance at life. The sanctuary’s mission will soon grow. Peace Ridge was recently gifted 640 acres of land to open an equine center in nearby Freedom. The land is also protected. “I'm really into land conservation because I like the idea that the wild animals have a place to go and just be,” Tessier said. The sanctuary is home to 400 animals that are now thriving and living out their lives in comfort, away from the abuse they were rescued from.
