Following the U.S. Senate’s approval of a historic, bipartisan $1 trillion dollar infrastructure package, a group of Maine environmental advocates are now calling on congressional leaders to pass a $3.5 trillion plan to address climate change. “If we miss this moment, the results of that could be catastrophic,” said Kathleen Meil of Maine Conservation Voters. The group’s message comes one day after the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change shared a dire warning on its global effects, saying many environmental changes are irreversible. Maine Conservation Voters say now is the time to make historic investments to address climate change. Meil says the $1 trillion infrastructure bill which just passed the senate represents just the "tip of the iceberg" in terms of what’s needed.
