Crews extinguish woods fire at Mast Landing Audubon Sanctuary in Freeport

Firefighters from eight towns battled a large brush and woods fire at the 145-acre Mast Landing Audubon Sanctuary in Freeport on Tuesday afternoon. It was eventually brought under control early Tuesday evening, but the extent of the damage caused by the fire was not known. The preserve, which is located one mile from downtown Freeport, is a popular area for hikers and birders.
