Letter: Utilities should be required to adopt clean energy

KENNEBEC JOURNAL • February 13, 2022

Gov. Janet Mills is proposing legislation to regulate Central Maine Power and Versant in a way that would reduce the number and length of power outages and protect the grid and it’s power sources from extreme weather events while also holding the utilities more financially accountable for pricing, etc. While that makes sense, it’s missing the need to require the utilities to transition to 100% clean energy on a specific timeline. The transition away from fossil fuels should be the top regulatory requirement. ~ Tony Marple, Whitefield
