71-year-old man rescued after his UTV plunges into Sebago Lake

BANGOR DAILY NEWS • February 21, 2022

Allen Hooper, 71, was riding his 2009 Yamaha Rhino side-by-side on the Sebago Lake ice about 1:32 p.m. when he unexpectedly came upon open water and the machine plunged into the lake below, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Hooper managed to make it onto nearby rocks, escaping injury although wet and cold, the sheriff’s office said Sunday evening. Sheriff’s deputies and game wardens staffing an airboat at the Sebago Lake Ice Fishing Derby in Standish went to the scene and brought Hooper to shore. That comes two days after another UTV went through the ice on Sebago Lake, near Indian Island.
