It’s been nearly two years since a new state law went into effect, adding a 15-cent fee to every pesticide product sold in Maine, ranging from weed killer to disinfectants and sanitizers. The Board of Pesticides Control posts a list of all Maine registered pesticide products, including the name of the product and its registration status. There are more than 10,000. Consumers can also check the National Pesticide Information Retrieval System through Purdue University, which allows you to search by product. Some stores are charging a fee on Downy laundry beads, but they are not a registered pesticide product in Maine. Any customer charged this 15-cent fee should take the issue to the store’s manager.
