Letter: Development near lake ‘a big risk for Auburn to take’

SUN JOURNAL • May 7, 2022

I am concerned about the water quality in Lake Auburn. Auburn’s recent rezoning of 148 acres near Lake Auburn (our drinking water) is troubling. The mayor of Auburn is determined to develop the 148 acres regardless of the consequences. If that is the tipping point that causes Lake Auburn to need a new filtration system, the citizens of Lewiston/Auburn will be forced to pay millions. If we are unable to change the zoning, I suggest that the city of Lewiston (water department) buy the land most likely to affect Lake Auburn and put it in trust, so that this never happens again. ~ John O’Malley, Lewiston
