Letter: PUC owes Mainers explanation of rising power costs

PORTLAND PRESS HERALD • July 29, 2022

Maine’s electricity generation rate increased by more than 54 percent this year, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. This led every other state in the United States – at a time when Maine residents are already suffering from high inflation. Maine also ranks third in the country per unit cost of every kilowatt-hour of electricity. Other states, such as Rhode Island, actually reduced their rates over the past year. Why and how did this happened – while at the same time, the PUC is ignoring the Maine citizen’s majority vote to not allow a swath of our Maine forest to be clear cut and wired to provide Quebec energy to Massachusetts? Do not say it’s for the environment! ~ Jerry Blodgett, Topsham
