Adam Nordell has lived with his family at Songbird Farm in Unity for the past seven years. This past winter he found out his property tested positive for PFAS chemicals, according to WVII. Nordell learned that not only was the land and water impacted, but he and his family’s health could be impacted as well. He can't grow produce on his land anymore. "Contacting our customers with this issue was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. My wife and I have been building our business and our lives here for seven years,” Nordell said. The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry is working to support farmers through these issues. They meet with farmers to do testing. Depending on the results, the department can make recommendations such as putting an additional filter on a well.
