Letter: Maine’s congressional delegation champions landmark animal welfare bills

PORTLAND PRESS HERALD • January 9, 2023

President Biden recently signed the last of five animal protection measures into law. These landmark animal protection laws were co-sponsored by Maine’s congressional delegation. Sen. Susan Collins led the way to the passage of the Big Cat Public Safety Act, ending the practice of cub petting and inhumane treatment of captive big cats in America. The FDA Modernization Act eliminates a federal mandate for animal testing for new drugs. These new laws will create a more humane nation when it comes to how we treat animals. ~ Gina Garey, Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy
