BANGOR DAILY NEWS • January 22, 2023

But thanks to this winter’s unusually warm conditions, the Arundal maple syrup producer has been tapping his 1,000 maple trees for the past two weeks, more than a month ahead of what is considered the normal start of maple syrup season in Maine. Lyle Merrifield, president of the Maine Maple Producers, said, “There is no question climate change is having an effect. We are seeing expansion in the industry. Maple syrup production is growing by leaps and bounds here.”
