Maine’s tribes get federal windfall to preserve history

The Maine State Historic Preservation Commission and four tribal communities will get $1.3 million, 30 percent more than last year, from the National Park Service’s Historic Preservation Fund. The Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians will get $103,705 to create a new tribal museum. This is the second time the tribe received historic preservation funding. Construction is slated to take place later this spring with the hopes of finishing the project before next winter.
