In rebuttal: Turn electric grid over to Maine citizens

SUN JOURNAL • April 4, 2023

Central Maine Power is dead last among all utilities in the nation at customer satisfaction. Meanwhile, the top five utilities nationwide in customer satisfaction are all municipal- or state-owned. Mainers pay the 10th-highest utility rates in the nation, 49% higher than customers of consumer-owned utilities. Maine also has the most frequent power outages in the nation, along with the second-longest duration of outages. CMP has betrayed Mainers’ trust, defaulting on its obligation to deliver dependable power while squandering millions of ratepayer dollars on advertisements and legal fees. It’s time to rein in CMP’s profligate spending and rate hikes, and turn our electric grid over to the citizens of Maine. ~ John Neal, Greene
