When it comes to certain animals, resistance is futile. Just about all of us smile and coo and melt when we see puffins, puppies, bear cubs and seals. Spiders? Not so much. The word for them would be…resistible. “They literally have eight eyes,” Michael DeLola noted as we discussed spiders. “And that’s just too many eyes—and too many legs—for a lot of people.” He ought to know. An employee with Bowdoin College’s information technology team, DeLola is equally at home in nature, where he’s passionate about taking extreme close-up photos of birds, fungi and insects. The images show a side of nature invisible to the naked eye.
