Dixfield man drowns while kayaking in Roxbury

PORTLAND PRESS HERALD • October 11, 2026

Shawn Noyes, 20, had been kayaking with his family Saturday on Ellis Pond in Roxbury. He was seen in the water attempting to swim to a nearby island, when he disappeared. The Maine Warden Service conducted a search Saturday evening. Noyes’s kayak and life jacket were recovered from the pond. On Sunday, the Maine Warden Service dive team recovered Noyes’s body; he was not wearing a life jacket. The Maine Warden Service said everyone should wear life jackets while recreating on the water.
