Friends of Katahdin Woods and Waters Celebrates 10 Years

DOWN EAST magazine • August 2026

Friends of Katahdin Woods and Waters, an official philanthropic partner to the National Park Service at Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. The national monument was established in 2016 thanks to a land donation of almost 90,000 acres from Roxanne Quimby, co-founder of Burt’s Bees. A wild and scenic landscape, the monument is known for its rivers, peaks, wildlife, and dark night skies.
