UMaine researchers seek better ways to turn forest materials into energy
UMAINE NEWS• August 7, 2026
Researchers from the University of Maine and the University of Maine at Fort Kent are studying how new technologies could make that process more efficient and environmentally sustainable. The five-year study focuses on woody biomass — wood and other forest materials used to produce energy — and how it can be produced, harvested and transported more efficiently. The $649,836 project is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
