Passamaquoddy artist Gabriel Frey’s artwork is projected to be installed at the entrance to Portland’s new waterfront park First Light Commons in the spring. The bronze statue, named Amewin after the Penobscot word for a person who fishes, will depict a 6-foot-tall Wabanaki spear fisherman holding a traditional fishing spear. The 3.5-acre park is still under construction and will include a public green space with walking and biking trails, situated along the waterfront between India and Hancock streets.
