Rep. Chellie Pingree of Maine introduces bill to protect presidential monuments from demolition

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, D-Maine, has introduced a bill to protect official monuments to U.S. presidents. Pingree, and Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Oregon, unveiled the Protecting Presidential Memorials Act this week. The proposal would mandate an act of Congress to demolish any congressionally designated memorial, like the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial or the Kennedy Center.
