PORTLAND PRESS HERALD • September 2, 2026
The summer of 2026 was Portland’s second-warmest, according to records dating to 1941. The thing I find most interesting about this near-record summer is I don’t think people even noticed. The frog in boiling water comes to mind: We are getting used to this warming climate. This, of course, is on brand for climate change. It’s not just a single summer being warm — that happens. It’s the streak of warm summers and the trend line. ~ Keith Carson, award-winning Maine meteorologist, Maine Conservation Voters
