What the Inflation Reduction Act means for Maine

BANGOR DAILY NEWS • August 8, 2022

From more electric cars on the road to lower out-of-pocket health care costs, effects of the $739 billion spending package just passed by the U.S. Senate will affect all Mainers. The measure comes with over $300 billion in investments in energy and climate change policies, primarily through tax incentives for Americans from making electric cars more affordable to tax credits making homes more energy efficient. From rising sea levels to a spike in tick-borne illnesses and the loss of jobs in Maine’s fishing industry, climate change is already affecting Maine in a myriad of ways. If successful, the act’s provisions could ensure that those problems do not grow far more severe in the decades ahead.
