Maine has tallied 40 railroad fires this year. Most of them happened in Oakland

Oakland is home to just under 7 miles of railroad track, just a tiny fraction — 0.006% — of the Maine’s railroad track network. So far this year, 70% of the state’s railroad fires have happened on that stretch. That’s a 360% increase over last year. The Maine Forest Service is investigating.
